Love the piano?

SO DO I.  I can teach you.

MEET janelle bracken

Welcome!

Studio J

My name is Janelle Bracken, and Studio J is the warm, encouraging space in my home where I teach piano.  Music is wonderful, and powerful.  Each child can begin piano lessons only once.  Make it a great beginning!

I give my very best to each student because I know how crucial a great start is to the success and confidence of a new player.  I mentor, teach, support, and enthusiastically guide each of my students on a fun and engaging musical journey.  My school-aged students develop musical skills that will be with them for the rest of their lives and many of my students play other instruments.  Because I love the first years of lessons, I am passionate  about providing beginners with a solid foundation for the music they want to play in the future, whatever style that may be.

Located in Indianapolis, IN, the studio is conveniently located off I-65 at the Southport Road exit.

Recent News

I am currently teaching lessons in-person.
  • As of 12/3/2022, I'm now taking inquiries from new potential piano families who are interested in committing to a time slot for next school year 2023-2024.  New  students (from Wait List) usually begin in June of 2022, as the re-enrollment for existing students completes in May.  If you are interested in having your student join Studio J, please tell me more about your child's interest in piano, using the contact form to the right.  I will be happy to send you the link to a Google survey for potential new students.
  • Friday, November 4, 2022 was our very successful Fall Studio Recital.  All school-aged students performed solos and there were several duets as well.
  • Friday, July 1, 2022 marked my 31st  year since opening Studio J back in 1991.
  • Our Spring Recital was wonderful!  It was held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Southland Community Church.  One delightful hour of piano solos and duets presented by students aged 6 to 18.  I have two seniors graduating this year who have both studied here for many years.  It's always sad to see them go!
  • Fall Recital - November 19, 2021.  We welcomed back one student who had been online for over a year.  Sweet times!
  • April 23, 2021-Studio J Spring Recital.  This recital was when my HS senior daughter and I premiered "Joie de Vivre", a 1 piano, 4-hand duet I commissioned Kevin Olson to write to commemorate my 30th Anniversary of teaching piano.
  • November 18, 2020 - Fall Recital.  Our return to in-person recitals after the lockdowns.  Masks and social distancing in place.  It was fantastic to be back to a more traditional recital, compared to the YouTube one on 5/1/2020.
  • After pivoting to online lessons from March 2020 through the summer, we resumed in-person lessons in September 2020 with precautions and distancing in place.  I will continue to offer online lessons as an option for all of my students when needed.  We have followed the surges up and down throughout the last 2 years.  I am grateful to be able to continue our musical journeys in whichever lesson format they choose.
  • Spring Recital - May 1, 2020 was our first-ever YouTube Recital.  Students and their families recorded their recital pieces on their home instruments, and I uploaded them to an unlisted playlist on my YouTube channel.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

The child is always made to feel safe to ask questions when something is not understood.  It's ok to make a mistake.  Janelle is also firm with her students in a loving way and makes sure they know the importance of practicing their lessons.  Janelle is a positive person and she laughs.  We all feel good after lessons and leave with a smile on our faces.  Janelle truly inspires her students."
